Just another enviable space containing a desirable collection of designer classics dotted here, there and everywhere.  Cleverly put together by Kathryn Tyler - owner of interior design consultancy Linea Studio - who maintains a buy local philosophy, let's see what Falmouth has to offer on the vintage/mid-century front ....... eight perfectly formed Jason Chairs by Carl Jacobs, a Butterfly Stool by Sori Yanagi, one Organic Chair by Eames/Saarinen, not one, but three Eames Soft Pads, Ercol's Windsor Grandfather Rocker and a Race Rocker by Ernest Race.  Mmmm, not bad!

Mixed up

Wednesday 30 March 2011

Q:  What do you get if you mix one part Robin Day's Polypropylene Chair, one part Panton Chair, and a hole?

A:  A Model 290* by Steen Østergaard.

* Well, that's what we think!

Supernova

Look at this bright spark with its moulded rosewood plywood seat and solid rosewood arm rests, mounted on a chrome plated steel frame.  Distributed by Westnofa, an umbrella organisation for Norwegian manufacturers, the designer (and manufacturer) of this chair is unknown, their identity lost in time.  So, sit back and enjoy the aesthetics!

I spy

Monday 28 March 2011

A good day was had at The Vintage Furniture Flea yesterday with an interesting array of furniture on offer as well as all sorts of other bits and bobs.  The Herman Miller shell chairs were probably the best buy at £650 for a set of four, that's just over £160 a chair, which is quite bargainous in our opinion .... and they were in tip-top condition.  Everything else was priced as one would expect, so there was little chance of us leaving with a couple of Bertoia's under our arm which we'd managed to bag for a tenner each, but hey!

Ad break

Sunday 27 March 2011

We're heading off to The Vintage Furniture Flea today, so what better way to get us in the mood than these delightfully colourful illustrated adverts dating from the 1950s.

Paying homage

Thursday 24 March 2011

We stumbled across this apartment over at Interior Design which is completely chock-a-block with designs by Jean Prouvé, amongst many others.  The owners of this Parisian retreat, Philippe Jousse and his wife Patricia, picked up their first piece by Prouvé in 1979 from a secondhand shop.  Now Phillippe, a former photographer, and Patricia, a former window dresser, are the owners of Galerie Jousse Entreprise, one of the world's leading dealers of Prouvé's work.

Snookered

Wednesday 23 March 2011

Being somewhat partial to the striking vibrancy of pea green, we thought we'd share with you these close-up images of a 1950s style Italian armchair which has been reupholstered in snooker table fabric.

Kaleidoscope

Tuesday 22 March 2011

OK, so Model 400, or Tank as it is better known, isn't one of our favourite, favourite designs by Aalto, but the little number below which formed part of the 'Dress The Chair' campaign celebrating the quality and craftsmanship of Artek products in collaboration with world famous design fabric houses like Missoni, really caught our eye!

Great Danes

Monday 21 March 2011

Whilst working in Lebanon at the beginning of the sixties, Danish architect Jørgen Kastholm took inspiration from seeing a Turkish sword and teamed up with fellow Dane and architect Preben Fabricius to design the Scimitar chair.  The chair's base is created by pouring molten metal into three individual ceramic moulds  before welding each section together to form its beautiful and unusual shape.  The Scimitar chair, dating from 1963, was first shown to the public at an exhibition at Copenhagen's Museum of Industrial Arts.
