Gulp ...... a Karpen of California Horn lounge chair dating from the 1950s.  Love.  And we should thank the mid-century fella over at Mid-Century Online for introducing us to this shapely creature ......... thanks!

  5. I have 2 of these. How much do you think that these are worth? I posted a link of a company that claims to have created this design. Their chair sells for $3200. How much do you think the Karpens would be worth given that these great chairs are original?

  6. Anonymous: We've been unable to locate an original Horn chair that's currently for sale - although we have managed to find an original Atomic chair, also by Karpen, over at Planet Modern (http://bit.ly/kbGIlL) that has a price tag of US$1,700. We're slightly confused by the Bella chair - it certainly looks like the Horn chair but it appears to be part of Twentieth's own collection of works designed in-house. Interestingly, Twentieth was only founded in 1999.

  7. twentieth claims their productions are based off Italian designs but are identical to Karpen Furniture designs. I recently acquired a pair of these in the original 1950s fabric which will soon be available for sale through my Chicago showroom

  10. I'd love photos. I've been trying to find out about these chairs for months. I bought one off craigslist and felt so guilty I paid a lot more than the woman was asking. Awesome to discover who finally designed them!

  11. Twentieth is a pretentious store the sales staff are about as non friendly as they come and I've been in Los Angeles all of my 50 years. Their designs are rip offs and their prices are beyond stratospheric.

  12. I have a pair of these chairs. I was very fortunate to find them on ebay. Both were purchased for $1000.00 each. Both need to be reupholstered. However, they are well worth it. Their accurate value has yet to be determined. I have seen them go for over $2600.00 per chair at auction. I think their value is well over that since they are becoming more rare. The twentieth "Bella chair" is an absolute rip off the Karpen design. If their chair sells for $3200.00 and it's a replica...the karpen should be valued at well above that price.

    1. We hope you are enjoying your chairs - if you love them, their monetary value should, in our opinion, be a secondary consideration. But then again, it's always comforting to know you have bought well!
