We do like the simplicity of these side chairs attributed to Yngve Ekström. Collectively, the spindled back and tappered legs - both of which add support to the circular aspects of the frame - make for a deliciously light and airy piece of furniture. Add to that the sumptuous leather seat pads, and you've a seat we just want to sit in!

More like a piece of sculpture than a chair, but then, one shouldn't be exclusive of the other. This is an absolute classic - beautifully proportioned.
ReplyDeleteIt's not Yngve Ekström ... it's Italian, but I didn't yet find out who designed it!
ReplyDeleteYes, we've read a similar thread over on Design Addict. If you find out who the 'mystery' designer is, please do let us know!
DeleteI recently purchased one of them which is labeled with "GESSEF".
ReplyDeleteBusiness directories to follow there still exists a company called GESSEF S.R.L. in Italy, but they have no website. I wrote them an email ... lets see what happens!
I have also seen those chairs labeled with "Stolfabriek AB" which is a swedish company.
Interesting. Ekström designed the Arka and Sibbo chairs for Stolfabriks AB, Smålandsstenar, so there is a connection between the designer and this manufacturer - although clearly this doesn't mean that Ekström designed this model. As for GESSEF srl, we'll keep our fingers crossed you get a response to your email!
DeleteThe first response came quickly:
ReplyDelete"Dear Mr.,
I've seen the picture. This model is, at least , 40 years old. I will check in the old files to find the designer. The problem is that to day just few craftsmen would be able tu produce such model.
I keep you informed.
Kind regards"
So they're going to check the file ...... sounds good!
DeleteI own two of these at the momenet, marked GESSEF...but no name of the designer yet...
