Eiffel base, dowel base, rocker base, cats cradle, H base, La Fonda, bench. Bench? Yeap, bench. These wooden benches date from the 1950s and originate from a German university. They're unusual to say the least, but hugely fascinating. What say you?

I say that must have been a very cool university indeed, and I agree that those benches are incredibly fascinating. I'd love to have a set to pull up to the table for my grandsons.

ReplyDelete...they look a little later than 50s, amazingly there was a time that fiberglass shells were unpopular in favor of cheap and fast to make poly-plastics, hence herman miller sold off huge stock piles of shells and end of range chair elements on there own to independent makers, this spawned all manor of 'homemade' style designs in schools, holiday camps and cafes all over europe. if you look hard- fiberglass shells can still be spotted in the uk on fixed position table and chair combos in greasy-spoons. great site, thanks. rupert blanchard
