There's just a few days left to savour the delights of Galerie Kreo's latest exhibition - Enlightened 50s: Iconic French Lighting from a Modern Decade - before it comes to an end this Thursday.  The exhibition blurb makes for an interesting read ... and allows one to brush up on the names of those all important French mid-twentieth century lighting designers to boot!

This wonderful picture of an aluminum group chair upholstered in Alexander Girard hopsack requires little introduction and no actual words, except perhaps this equally wonderful quote written by Charles and Ray Eames …

"The details are not the details;  they make the product."

In/Berlin

Thursday, 28 January 2016

I thought I'd slip back into blogging and make wild promises about this year being the year in which I publish content consistently and without fail.  But hey, we're day 28 of 2016 so I'm scrapping that latter pledge and getting straight down to business.

Also, hello. How are you?

I spotted these images a while back of a loft apartment and studio somewhere in Berlin and was quite taken with the high ceilings and abundance of natural light flooding in through those enormous windows.  And then there's the furniture - it's always about the furniture.  The Egg chair by Arne Jacobsen always gets a big thumbs up from me, and its curves are a pleasing contrast to the almost saggy lines of the 'Mags Soft' sofa by HAY which, incidentally, is just screaming to be lounged/jumped on big time.  And what the sofa lacks in structured angles is more than made up for by the silhouettes of Poul Kjærholm's PK22 easy chairs.

Add to that the parquet flooring, whitewashed brickwork, moody kitchen and the gold racing bike, and yes, I could quite easily move in … on a fully-furnished bases, obvs.

Fritz Hansen Fritz Hansen Fritz Hansen Fritz Hansen Fritz Hansen

Old news admittedly, but I simply adore these images from Fritz Hansen of their showroom in Milan which was transformed during Salone del Mobile into an apartment known as The House of Fritz Hansen.  Admittedly a showcase for the discerning customer to discover the Series 7 in new colours by Danish artist Tal R and the latest designs by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon, the styling and set design by Christine Rudolph is second to none.
